Life's A Bitch. Then You Die

Life's a bitch. Then you die. I don't mean to upset anyone, but face the facts. That is what happens.

Most religions teach of a hereafter; a life beyond living today, but encompassing tomorrow, or, what happens after we die.

Religionists of all persuasions have taught much the same thing for endless centuries, with a similar "something" that occurs after this lifetime, however long or short that may be.

The problem with taking much stock in such teachings is the abysmal record of major and minor religions at predicting the future. They're much better at rewriting the past than they are determining with accuracy what will happen to us once we die.

Most major religions teach of a life after death of some sort; either in a nebulous heaven, or even upon the earth. There just isn't much evidence, short of the religionists promises, to support any such eventuality. Or any eventuality except death.

Life for most people on earth is a daily struggle from crib to grave. For most, it has always been that way. A struggle. A bitch of sorts.

So far as we know, the end of each life, whether young or old, is death; forbidden communication with the afterlife notwithstanding. Those in the afterlife don't seem to bother to communicate with those of us in this life.

Yet, despite little evidence to the contrary, many hundreds of millions, if not billions of people believe in an after life, regardless of their religion.

The original Jews of the Bible did not believe in a resurrection of life to heaven, but to an endless life on the earth. Something changed from the time of the earliest scriptures. Many people believe they will go to heaven but are hard pressed to know why, or what goes on there.

The biggest problem appears to be evidence-- or, a decided lack of evidence. There just isn't much to go on. Religionist preach about an afterlife and what you must do to obtain it. No wonder there is so little trust in religious teachings. It's a lot more talk than it is action.

What is interesting is that about half the people on the earth today came from the original families described in the Bible-- Jews, Christians, Muslims. They don't get along too well and historically they never have.

Why does God, in whatever form he is, play favorites? Well, favorites according to the religionists of each religion. Religion really is a buffet of believes. Everyone gets in line, they partake of what is available before them, then, one by one, they all check out following a lifetime of-- well, whatever each of us accomplishes in our lifetimes.

Life's a bitch. Then you die.
