I don't know why no one has come up with this idea before. It's the perfect solution to two problems. Landfills and highways.

Now if I can only figure out a way to make millions of dollars in royalties from this idea.

Think about it. Our national highways are in disrepair. Highways are expensive to build, expensive to maintain, and use up precious natural resources.

The other problem is landfills. All over the country, our landfills, those places where we send our garbage to become growing mountains of trash, are filling up. There's no place left to put the nation's garbage.

Or, is there?

Why not put our national garbage into our national highways? Put the trash into the streets.

The Adopt-a-Highway Program gets highways and streets cleaned up via sponsorships. Local businesses, civic groups, and churches volunteer to clean up the trash along stretches of highways.

How about a new pilot program called Adopt-a-Pothole to take all solid trash and use it to fill the potholes in streets and highway. Once the details are worked out, the program could go national and solid waste could be used to build highways.

When trash and garbage is fully solidified it would make a great filler for potholes and the perfect substance to build and repair streets and highways. The landfill shortage is solved. Streets and highways get volunteer workers for repair, natural resources are saved.

If this is an idea whose time has come, then royalties should come also. It's only fair.
