Violent Movies Reduce Crime

Add this one to the Ridiculous As Hell department. A
new study says that violent movies reduce crime. It's
the flypaper effect.
Common sense and other studies indicate the opposite: violent movies increase crime. Which one is correct?
OK, my interest is piqued. I'll go for what's behind Door #2, Monty. How, pray tell, does a violent movie reduce crime?
Apparently, it's a very simple theory which may have plenty of statistics to back it up. Just as traffic on the streets and freeways is reduced prior to and during the SuperBowl, violent criminals attend violent movies, therefore, they're off the streets and not committing violent crimes.
Don't say you were not warned.
The term is voluntary incapacitation. The typical violent offender is kept off the streets by watching violent movies in the evening and early morning hours when most violent crime is committed. It keeps such potential offenders away from drugs, alcohol, and the undue influence of bad associates.
Where does violent crime come from? it comes from violent people who don't go to the movies.
Seriously. It's difficult to make up stuff like this.
