Our cross country driving vacation was courtesy of a Ford Fusion hybrid which touted 42 mpg combined. We averaged 41 mpg, so, well, close enough.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid is a sedan. The 2020 Fusion Hybrid starts at $28,000 (MSRP), with a destination charge of $1,195. It gets EPA-estimated 42 MPG combined.
The only problem with the hybrid was obvious after the fact. The battery takes up trunk space. We don’t travel light and not all our suitcases fit into the trunk. That required a trip to Walmart for some bicycle security cables.
Hybrids also suffer from less power than a 6-cylinder engine but it didn’t matter much because the interstate highways were packed with fellow travelers and a parade of 18-wheelers.
The gas mileage was good.
